TVU Undefeated Mayweather - Hatton Channel Listing

LAS VEGAS:
If Floyd Mayweather's welterweight title bout with Ricky Hatton is half as good as the weigh-in, boxing fans are in for a remarkable finish to a strong year.

From the floor to the ceiling, one end of the MGM Grand Garden Arena was packed with 5,930 singing, whistling, clapping fans. About 5,929 seemed to be supporting Hatton, the wildly popular underdog — including the small brass band sponsored by a British newspaper.

"There's only onnnnnnne Ricky Hatton!" they sang relentlessly — and when Hatton finally took the stage, they roared approval.

Mayweather ascended to the scales with fellow "Dancing With the Stars" contestants Wayne Newton and Helio Castroneves holding his belts. Mayweather's two sons, 7-year-old Shamaree and 8-year-old Koraun, also held up belts won by their famous father — but not even the kids could deflect the boos.

"That was amazing," said Castroneves, the Brazilian two-time Indianapolis 500 champion who won the TV dance contest. "I was right behind Wayne, in case something goes wrong. ... At least they were more organized than Brazilian soccer fans. They'll be singing one thing over here, and one thing over there, and they don't get it together like that."

Hatton, a longtime junior welterweight, weighed in at 145 pounds (66 kilograms), while Mayweather hit the limit of 147 pounds (67 kilograms).

"Floyd only has one fan!" the crowd sang while Mayweather flexed.

Ring announcer Michael Buffer even got in a crack, drawing boos when he claimed President Bush had called Vegas in concern.

"The last time this many British invaded America, it was 1812 and you burned down the White House!" Buffer said.

HOPKINS-CALZAGHE HEATS UP: Though Bernard Hopkins and Joe Calzaghe haven't even agreed to fight next year, they're already going toe-to-toe.

Hopkins and Calzaghe had never met before Friday, but they confronted each other in the press room and again on the weigh-in stage. The scuffles — and a racially tinged remark by Hopkins — piqued already strong interest in the veteran fighters' potential meeting next summer at Yankee Stadium or another East Coast outdoor venue.

The fighters traded insults in both venues, but Hopkins provided the last word in the press room.

"I will never let a white boy beat me. Never," Hopkins said to Calzaghe, who only laughed.

Hopkins, the longtime middleweight champion who stunned Winky Wright in a light heavyweight bout in July, has been calling out the unbeaten Welsh champion for five months, anticipating a cross-cultural clash that could generate all the interest of Mayweather's fight with Hatton.

Earlier, Hopkins vented his frustration about the fighters' inability to reach a deal. Hopkins claims Golden Boy Promotions offered a 50-50 revenue split with Calzaghe, who was rebuffed by Hopkins earlier this week after requesting a private meeting with The Executioner.

"When did Joe ever leave his neighborhood to fight?" Hopkins asked of Calzaghe, who has never fought in North America. "It's 'World Champion.' Come out of your element and see how you function. Come out of Europe. ... I'm already who I am. Joe needs that American icon on his resume. Right now, all he has is Jeff Lacy."

After chasing a fight with Hopkins for years, Calzaghe (44-0) has expressed frustration with the pace of negotiations between Golden Boy and famed British promoter Frank Warren, claiming Golden Boy's offers are unacceptable. Calzaghe said he's more than willing to make the trip across the Atlantic for the fight Hopkins already has dubbed "Independence Day."

"I just came out to support Ricky, but this has been a bonus," said Calzaghe, who unified the 168-pound (76-kilogram) division with a thrilling unanimous decision over Mikkel Kessler last month.

"Bernard doesn't scare me in the slightest. I'm undefeated for 17 years. Look at his face, and look at my face. He's 43, and he can't fight any more. I still don't think he'll fight me. I think he's just talking. If he does fight me, he knows what'll happen."

___

OSCAR'S CALL: Add Oscar De La Hoya to the list of fight fans who wonder if Mayweather is less than focused on Hatton.

Sure, De La Hoya has a vested interest in sparking belief in Hatton, since the Golden Boy is co-promoting the fight with Mayweather's company. But De La Hoya believes Mayweather might have reached his highest summit with a split-decision victory in their fight in May.

"He wanted that fight so bad for so many years," De La Hoya said. "Now, in his mind, his next fight is Ricky Hatton. In his mind, he's saying, 'He doesn't have a chance.' ... You start losing that focus, because you're on top of the world, because you were just involved with the biggest fight in the history of the sport. You sometimes tend to think, 'I'll change things up a little. Hatton can't be that tough.'"

Mayweather's alteration of his usual fight-week training schedule and his regular complaints about his aching body have prompted many to wonder if the champion is fully ready. Mayweather was incredibly trim at Friday's weigh-in, showing off a chiseled six-pack.

"He's got to find other things to motivate him," Hopkins said. "One of those things was 'Dancing With the Stars,' and I don't know if that's a good one."

25 Years of C64

Happy birthday to the Commodore 64. Its 25 years old now. Many may not realize but, the Guinness Book of World Records lists the Commodore 64 as the best-selling single computer model. Sorry Apple. In addition, it was the C64 that kept video gaming alive during the Atari console crash. Nintendo often gets credit for this, but in reality, The Nintendo did nothing more then take gaming concepts from the C64, and applied them to the dumbed-down console environment. Strategy, shooters, platformers, simulators...The C64 had it all. While the sound absolutely rocked. I remember writing a music simulator which mapped piano keys to the keyboard.

Its true, the C64 was not for the light of heart, with its load strings and other techie prep that often needed to be done to make a game work. But when they did...damn they were fun. The peripherals were great too, gotta love the auto fire option and EPYX speed loader. Not to mention, my first program ever written was on the C64! So lets all raise our over caffeinated drink and sing praise to the C64. Father of great computer gaming.

Here's my quick list of some great C64 games:

Isabelle Duerme - AHN News Writer

Tucson, AZ (AHN) - A young man's murder-suicide in 2005 is now being blamed on a cult in which the man's mother was a leader.

Ricky Rodriguez, who stabbed his former nanny to death in his Arizona apartment, and then fled to the desert of California where he committed suicide by shooting himself, is now identified as acting based on the teachings of the cult known as "The Family International."

Former members of the cult gave accounts revealing that they witnessed Rodriguez having sexual encounters with his mother Karen Zerby. This, they said, was a practice in adherence to the tenets of the cult regarding adult-child sex, as promulgated by cult founder and self-proclaimed prophet David Berg, who according to the United Press International referred to himself as "Mo," short for Moses.

"I actually witnessed Karen Zerby having intercourse with her own son, Ricky Rodriguez, at age 11," Davida Kelley, a former cult member, told CNN.

Don Lattin, author of "Jesus Freaks", a book that exposed the cult's activities and history, explained that Berg had identified Karen Zerby as his Queen, and encouraged the sexual relationship between her and Rodriguez, as he "wanted his child to embrace sexuality, to be a sexual being as an infant and growing up."

Although he left the cult in 2001, Rodriguez reportedly suffered extreme trauma from the experiences, and vowed revenge on his mother. His statements were documented in a videotape he made in 2005, in which he was shown saying "She's gonna pay dearly, one way or another," all the while loading guns and holding a knife.

Rodriguez then went to murder his former nanny Angela Smith, who Kelley identified to have been "one of the many adults that had intercourse with Rick Rodriguez."

Rodriguez failed to find his mother, and before dying called wife Alixcia Munumel, saying "Baby, I love you...Come die with me."

Rapper Pimp C, aka Chad Butler, found dead in LA hotel

Chad Butler (December 29, 1973December 4, 2007), better known by his stage name Pimp C, was an American Southern rapper better known as one-half of the hip hop group UGK.

Biography

UGK, which also includes Bun B, is a successful rap group from the Southern U.S. especially during the early to mid 1990's and also made prominent guest appearances on hit singles by Jay-Z ("Big Pimpin'", 2000) and Three 6 Mafia ("Sippin' On Some Sizzurp", 2000) and was to work with Celly Cel, C-Bo, Spice 1 and Devin the Dude on a couple of projects. He is the co-owner of Trill Entertainment along with bandmate Bun B.

Pimp C stated that he would be releasing an album alongside rapper Too $hort, during his appearance on the show "Sucker Free on MTV." Rolling Stone named "I'm Free" (Pimpalation) as #80 on its list of 100 best songs of 2006.

On August 15, 2006, Pimp C appeared on BET's "Rap City". He was interviewed and gave his thoughts on multiple topics, including his current album, Pimpalation, and beefs in the music industry. He also stressed that rappers need to unionize in order to keep from being used by record companies, a point he has stressed in previous interviews. Pimp C also stepped into the booth during the show and did an off the head freestyle to Bun B's track "Draped Up". He stated that it was the first freestyle he had done since being released from prison.

Personal life

Butler was sentenced to eight years in prison on January 28, 2002 for failing to complete a community service requirement stemming from an aggravated assault charge. He released his debut solo album, The Sweet James Jones Stories, in March 2005 through Rap-A-Lot Records. Bun B and Rap-a-Lot records had waged a 'Free Pimp C' movement, spread through music, Free Pimp C t-shirts and caps. [1]

He was released on Friday, December 30, 2005 from the Terrell Prison Unit in Rosharon, Texas after serving about half of his eight-year sentence. He was to be on parole until December of 2009. [2]

He was treated for minor injuries on April 18, 2006, after he was involved in a car accident while leaving the video shoot for his single "Pourin' Up." [3] A Port Arthur Police officer that was escorting the rappers responded to gunfire and pursued the shooters. As the suspects fled through local neighborhoods on a flat tire, they crossed over Gulf Way Drive, ran a red light and struck Butler's Bentley at high speed. He was treated for minor injuries and released. A Rap-A-Lot security guard also spent time in the hospital before making a full recovery.

Death

On December 4, 2007, Pimp C was found dead at the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood, California, after Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a 911 call. They arrived to his sixth floor hotel room to find him dead in bed. This was three days after he performed with Too $hort at the House of Blues in Los Angeles.[4][5]

Feuds

Atlanta

On Atlanta: "Atlanta is not the South. Atlanta is not the South, gotdamn it, when you go to Atlanta what does your clock say? When you get off the plane from Los Angeles or Texas, what time do it be over there? Atlanta is East Coast time. You niggas ain't in the South."

Later he apologized for his statements on Atlanta not being the south. He also said that some of his quotes were "taken out of context during the interview" as well.[6]

Young Jeezy

Dboys: (Some fans have speculated that he meant Young Jeezy): "All y'all niggas talking about selling dope? If y'all niggas was some d-boys, guess what, man? I don't believe you niggas no more cause I'm seeing you niggas in button up shirts getting cute and pretty trying to look sexy. Nigga, fuck you. nigga, and I ain't gotta say your name. Play with me and I'll expose the niggas that was wearing backpacks with their pant leg rolled up back then in Atlanta when me and Big Meech used to be off in the club kickin' it buying each other champagne." Chad was asked about the statement in a later interview, and stated, "If I was talkin' bout Jeezy, then I woulda said his name. I ain't no pussy nigga. If I got somethin' to say about someone, I'll say the bitches name loud and clear. Chuuuch."[7]

Pimp C is Dead - Pimp C Died - How Did Pimp C Die? UGK

Pimp C is Dead

pimpc.jpg
One day you're here, and then you're gone

Two years ago, Bun B met Pimp C outside the prison where Pimp had just finished serving four years. The pictures from that day just kill me: these two guys, who'd been through the absolute worst dregs of the music industry alongside each other, finally reunited, finally ready to take the world over now that the sound they'd pioneered together had swept the world. Pimp and Bun always had one of the most fascinating group dynamics in rap. Bun was the voice of hard-won wisdom, his virtuosic gravelly authoritative boom-rumble dispensing common-sense truisms without ever resorting to preachiness or cliche. Pimp, on the other hand, was the snarling nihilistic live-wire, the one who sneered the group's most vivid threats and come-ons. Even after serving time for aggravated assault, Pimp still acted like an unreformed knucklehead, talking shit on his peers in interviews without thinking twice about it and even instigating a low-level subliminal feud with Young Jeezy over cocaine prices earlier in the year, one that never really ignited probably because Jeezy wasn't willing to outright dis a legend like Pimp. Because besides being a volatile force, Pimp was also a musical visionary, a kid who translated years of musical training into rap beats, sliding mournful organs and slippery blues guitars under slow-thumping drums, creating a fuller, more expansive sound than just about anyone else in rap at the time. And Pimp was also responsible for some startling, beautiful moments of lyrical clarity, moments that felt even more powerful because Pimp was so outright oblivious to notions of rap positivity. On "One Day," Pimp even had, for my money, the single most poignant line in the history of his group: "My world a trip; you can ask Bun B, bitch, I ain't no liar / My man Bobo just lost his baby in a house fire / And when I got on my knees that night to pray / I asked God why you let these killers live and take my homeboy son away." Pimp and Bun lent each other power and context: two overwhelmingly different people who nonetheless supported each other through years of bullshit, who seemed eternally devoted to each other. I don't know if I'm ever going to be able to look at those post-prison photos again. Pimp C died this morning. He was 33.

It'll probably be a while before we know much about Pimp's death. Right now, only a few details have emerged. LA firemen responded to a 911 call earlier today and found Pimp dead in bed at the Hollywood hotel where he was staying. On Saturday night, he'd performed with Too Short at the House of Blues in LA, a show I would've loved to see. And that's it, that's all we know. I feel the exact same sense of overwhelming disbelief that I did when I found out ODB died four years ago. Like ODB, Pimp was an unpredictable and sometimes self-destructive figure whose life didn't necessarily get a whole lot easier once he became famous. Like ODB, he got out of prison shortly before dying. Like ODB, he was often frank about his drug use. And just like with ODB, I didn't ever think Pimp would actually die. UGK spent its entire lifetime dealing with record-label bullshit; the duo had only just finished up the contract with Jive Records they'd signed in 1992. That label had never managed to turn the duo into major stars even though they had a huge, reverential regional following pretty much from the beginning. After they recorded "Big Pimpin'" with Jay-Z (a move Pimp was initial reluctant to make since he was worried it would alienate his core audience), the label pushed Dirty Money, their next album, back for two years and completely failed to build on the success of the group's biggest-ever hit. And then Pimp went to prison just as Southern rap was enjoying its commercial ascent, staying there while Houston rap found its improbable spotlight moment in 2005. Even as he sat in prison, though, Bun turned his name into a hometown rallying cry. Pimp actually made good on his post-prison chance to build on that goodwill; he released a pretty good solo album in 2006, and then UGK released on of this year's great albums, topping the Billboard charts for the first time in their careers. And now he's dead, just as everything was starting to click. He had a whole lot more great work left in him.

Pimp was one of the greatest producers in rap history. His slow, murmuring organic funk beats left a sonic template for many of the greatest albums of the last fifteen years; it's hard to imagine how stuff like the classic run of Dungeon Family albums or, say, T.I.'s Trap Muzik would've sounded without him. He was also an indelible vocal presence. He always held his own with Bun B even though he had nothing like his partner's unreal technical command. He sang some gorgeous hooks. He gave some riveting interviews. With UGK, he released six albums, and every last one of them is worthy. The best of them, Ridin' Dirty, is one of my favorite rap albums of all time. He did some amazing things, and he will be missed. I can't believe he's really dead.

Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer Lyrics

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer!

“The famous Christmas song Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer started life as a poem created by an American advertising executive called Robert May. He was requested to produce a poem that could be given away to children by the Santa Claus employed by Department Stores at Christmas! Working as an Advertising Executive Robert May had a natural flair with words and was able to compose the Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer poem which was specifically designed to appeal to children. This marketing ploy was a massive success and approximately 2.5 million Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer poems were given away in the first year of its publication! In 1949 the singer Gene Autry recorded a musical version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer composed by Johnny Marks.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer : Lyrics

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw him,
you would even say it glows.

All of the other reindeer
used to laugh and call him names.
They never let poor Rudolph
join in any reindeer games.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then all the reindeer loved him
as they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,
you'll go down in history!

Best Recipe for Potato Latkes this Happy Hanukah

What is the secret to making great latkes? We found that the starchier the potato, the crisper the latke. As for varieties, we tested baking potatoes (the starchiest), Yukon Golds, and boiling potatoes (the least starchy) and liked the flavor of them all. You can easily double this recipe for a crowd.

Active time: 45 min Start to finish: 45 min

Servings: Makes 12 to 16 latkes.

subscribe to Gourmet

Ingredients

1 lb potatoes
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 to 3/4 cup olive oil

Accompaniments: sour cream and applesauce

Preparation

Preheat oven to 250°F.

Peel potatoes and coarsely grate by hand, transferring to a large bowl of cold water as grated. Soak potatoes 1 to 2 minutes after last batch is added to water, then drain well in a colander.

Spread grated potatoes and onion on a kitchen towel and roll up jelly-roll style. Twist towel tightly to wring out as much liquid as possible. Transfer potato mixture to a bowl and stir in egg and salt.

Heat 1/4 cup oil in a 12-inch nonstick skillet over moderately high heat until hot but not smoking. Working in batches of 4 latkes, spoon 2 tablespoons potato mixture per latke into skillet, spreading into 3-inch rounds with a fork. Reduce heat to moderate and cook until undersides are browned, about 5 minutes. Turn latkes over and cook until undersides are browned, about 5 minutes more. Transfer to paper towels to drain and season with salt. Add more oil to skillet as needed. Keep latkes warm on a wire rack set in a shallow baking pan in oven.

Cooks' notes:

• Latkes may be made up to 8 hours ahead. Reheat on a rack set over a baking sheet in a 350°F oven, about 5 minutes.

• Grating the potatoes, soaking them briefly in water, and then squeezing out the liquid (as we’ve done here) keeps the batter from turning brown too quickly.

Snow Moves Into Maine - school cancellations

By MECHELE COOPER Staff Writer AUGUSTA — The roads weren’t great Monday morning, but with snow falling at a rate of an inch an hour, conditions worsened later in the day, setting up for another snowy day today.
Gov. John Baldacci took heed of the winter storm warning that continued until 7 a.m. today and sent state workers home early Monday.
The National Weather Service said a foot of snow was possible in the mountains of northern New England by the time the storm concludes, with the potential for 20 inches in northern Maine and wind gusts statewide of up to 40 mph today.
Ice storm warnings were issued for Massachusetts and Connecticut, while winter storm warnings were in effect until 7 a.m. today in Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, northern and western New York, and Maine.
By 10:30 a.m. Monday morning, 4 inches of snow had fallen in Augusta.
Augusta snow was measured at 9 inches at 5:46 p.m., weather service officials said.
Just before 6 p.m., National Weather Service observers had reported only smattering of unofficial snowfall totals made by volunteer weather observers.
A Freedom observer reported 7 inches at 2:45 p.m., according to weather service records. Skowhegan was listed at 8 inches at 4:15 p.m and Athens and New Sharon at 7 inches about 3:30 p.m., while Turner had accumulated 6 inches by 4:39 p.m.
“I’m looking at 8 to 10 inches accumulated over most of your area, and we’re looking to have an additional 3 to 5 inches falling througout the evening,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Kirk Apffel shortly before 6 p.m. Monday. “It looks like most areas (in central Maine), by the end, will have over a foot.
“In Kennebec County, you still have several hours to go and probably will keep going through daybreak (today),” Apffel said. Snowfall totals as recorded by National Weather Service volunteer observers may be obtained online by doing a Web search on the key word “pnsgyx” and looking for the “public information statement,” Apffel said.
Police urged commuters to use extra caution and to give themselves extra time to get home in the state’s first major snowstorm of the season — advice also sure to be useful during today’s morning commute.
Several cars slid off the Maine Turnpike by the time Monday’s morning rush was under way, but no accidents were reported on the toll highway.
Farther north, state police in Skowhegan also said no serious accidents had occurred.
“We have a few fender-benders, nothing drastic yet,” said Maine State Police Lt. Don Pomerleau. Trooper Hugh Landry said that trend appeared to be continuing during the nighttime hours as well.
“It does seem quiet. There’s only been a few ........
