mayra veronica - Performs for the troops

Mayra Veronica recently returned from Iraq with Wilmer Valderrama where they went to show their support for the troops.

Mayra Veronica Biography

As a biography, Mayra Veronica was born in Havana, Cuba on August 20, 1980, so her age is 27. She is a model and celebrity who, though born in Cuba, gained her fame in the United States. Mayra’s father, Arturo Aruca, was in a top rock band in Cuba, “Los Dada”. However, she struggled throughout her childhood as her family bounced from shelter to apartment after the family moved to the United States. When she couldn’t afford to take the ballet lessons she loved, the teacher told her she could come for free if she found 7 friends to attend the class also - she did. Veronica later graduated from Florida International University with a degree in Psychology.

Mayra got her start on Univision’s Don Francisco Presenta as a model. Her curves caught the eye of FHM, who included her in their 2004 calendar. Since then, Mayra has appeared on countless magazines and in commercials in the US, including a Nike Campaign with Lebron James, and ads for Loreal, Ford, Burger King, and Coca Cola. She was named to FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World List three years in a row.

Model/Singer Mayra Veronica To Head Overseas To Perform For U.S. Troops
Model/singer Mayra Veronica is on deck for the latest USO tour, alongside actor Wilmer Valderrama and comedian Russell Peters.

The tour is Veronica's first, and will see the three celebs salute service men and women, visit members of the armed forces, sign autographs, pose for pictures and serve up a platter of laughs to those in uniform.

"I look forward to leading this USO tour and saluting our service men and women," said Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General James E. Cartwright of the U.S. Marine Corps. "It's imperative to honor and praise our troops, and this tour does just that -- it lets them know America cares, recognizes and appreciates their efforts."

Designed to bring a touch of home to U.S. troops, it is slated to make stops in six countries and stage eight shows in the course of only six days.

Valderrama is excited to make his contribution to the troops -- for the third time.

"I am thrilled to be touring with the USO again and to be traveling to the Persian Gulf to entertain troops," said the actor. "The opportunity to travel with General Cartwright, meet with so many service members and offer my thanks is a real honor."

Voted one of the "top 100 sexiest women in the world" by FHM magazine, Veronica is a model, actress and songstress. Born in Cuba and raised in Miami, she has graced the covers of such magazines as Maxim, InStyle and King. She even had an animated character in "Def Jam: Icon," a popular video game created by Electronic Arts.

Most recently, she signed a multi-million dollar record deal with CMG/Universal Motown (see "Model/Singer Mayra Veronica Inks Multi-Million Dollar Record Deal"), which she described as a "dream come true."

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, there are currently 1.4 million active-duty U.S. service members and 1.2 million members of the National Guard and Reserves, with many serving overseas. In additional to the many other programs and services provided by the USO, entertainment tours are essential to fulfilling the USO's mission of boosting the morale of service members stationed far from home.

Past entertainers of the tour include the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Pitbull, Paul Wall and several other A-list celebrities.
